Your Internet Promo Is Ending. Do This 60 Days Before.

Many internet, TV and phone plans start with a promotional price for 12 or 24 months. When it ends, the regular price kicks in, often without much warning. If your bill suddenly went up, an expired promo is a common reason.

Find your promo end date

  • Look at your bill for words like "promotional," "discount" or "offer," often with an end date.
  • Check your account online or in the provider's app, under plan or offer details.
  • Or call and ask: "When does my current price end, and what will I pay after that?"

Put two dates on your calendar

60 days before the end date: compare offers and call. The month after it ends: check that your bill matches what you were promised.

What to ask for when you call

  • A new promotion or loyalty discount on the same plan
  • A lower plan if you don't use your current speed or channels
  • Removal of any add-ons you don't use
Say this: "My promotional price ends on [date]. I'd like to stay, but the new price is more than I want to pay. What offers can you give me to keep my bill close to what I pay now?"

Before you agree, ask: How long does the new price last? Is there a contract? Any new fees? Write down the rep's name and a confirmation number.

Offers vary by provider and area, and providers decide what to offer. Nothing here guarantees a lower price.
